2025 civics test: 128 questions

The 2025 test is based on the 2020 civics test, with a different way of giving it. It is not the same as the 2008 test. Many topics overlap, but the wording changed, and some older geography questions are gone. If you filed before October 20, 2025, use the 2008 civics test instead.

What to study

• American government: the Constitution, Congress, the presidency, the courts, and powers of the states.
• American history: the colonial period, the 1800s, and recent history through September 11, 2001.
• Symbols and holidays: the flag, the anthem, Independence Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day.

Twenty questions are marked for the 65/20 consideration. If you qualify, study those and use the 65/20 practice set below. Read the official list: 128 civics questions and answers (USCIS PDF).

Answers that change

President, vice president, Speaker of the House, Chief Justice, your governor, your senators, and your representative can change. The USCIS page reviewed September 18, 2025 lists Donald J. Trump, JD Vance, Mike Johnson, and John Roberts. Check test updates again before the interview.
